First and foremost always remember that Allah is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When ever you need someone to talk too Allah will always be there for you so never despair. You have a direct line with your Creator and you do not need a middleman to communicate with your Lord. Allah will help you so call upon Him.
After accepting Islam, many brothers and sisters find it difficult to know what they are required to do next.
The brother/sister is left with very little support or contact from a Muslim and is given a bucket full of information from a range of Muslims wishing to help, which can be confusing or over-burdening.
The brother/sister faces other unique challenges, such as hostility from family members and or exclusion from social groups due to differences in beliefs and actions. This can become an extremely situation for someone who has recently taken up the religion:
With these challenges in mind, it is important not to despair. Allah has guided you, and this should bring a solace to your heart.
It is of paramount importance that you start praying regularly straight away. Start learning the Salaah (Prayer), the actions and the recital, as this will help you build a connection with Allah. It is this connection that will help you through difficult situations and lead you to better way of life.
It is important that you keep in contact with the Muslim community as they will be your source of support through these challenging times. They will provide you with encouraging teachings from the religion which will strengthen your resolve. It is at this time that Shaytaan (Satan, the Devil) will try to create doubts in your mind, so having people around you that remind you of Allah is essential.
Remember, everything in life is a test, and in times of difficulty, Allah is with those who are patient.
إنَِّ لله مَََّعَ الصَّابرِِينَ
And be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient. (Qur'aan 8:46)
These
will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient, and
repel evil with good, and spend out of what We have provided them.
(Qur'aan 28:54)
اَمَّنِإ ىَّفَوُي َنوُرِباَّصلا مُهَرْجَأ ِرْيَغِب ٍباَسِح
Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without reckoning. (Qur'aan 39:10)
Take things slowly. Don't look at others who seem very religious, despairing that you will never reach such a level in knowledge or action. It didn't happen over night for them, and it sure won't happen over night for you. It's a process, enjoy it, be prepared for ups and downs. Allah will reward you abundantly for your efforts.
Remember, Allah has blessed His Creation with different abilities. Some of us are better at doing one thing over another. This is the case with everyone. You may come across people who have a wide scope of knowledge, are excelling in an area of worship with their Creator, but when you try, you find it extremely difficult. Give it some time, or realise that there is something out there reserved for you. For example, you may find it easier offering voluntary fasts over voluntary prayers, or you may find it easier calling others to Allah.
Try to learn some of the Important Fundamentals that will carry you through this way of life.
Remember Allah is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When ever you need someone to talk too Allah will always be there for you so never despair. You have a direct line with your Creator and you do not need a middleman to communicate with your Lord. Allah will help you so call upon Him.
